Motherhood is hard!

So I know I'm stating the obvious, but being a mom is by far the hardest job I've ever had...and I'm only 3 weeks in. I'm learning that newborns are crazy little things. One day they're super calm and sweet and the next, they're screaming constantly and can not be soothed. One minute I feel like I'm the world's best mom and can do everything...and then the next I can't seem to keep her from screaming. Oy vey!
Plus I'm still in recovery from my c-section. I can't lift anything over 10 lbs for another week to three weeks and our daughter is now at 9 lbs 2 oz (or she was as of her last doctor's appointment a week ago). So as she continues to grow and get heavier, I can't physically carry her in her car seat so that we can get out of the apartment and go on walks in the neighborhood. I basically have to wait until my husband gets home before I can do anything. So feeling stuck in our apartment is pretty rough as well. I've had to pass on a few lunch offers from friends because I physically can't carry Erin (our baby) to/from the car and the apartment.

Re-reading old blog posts

Wow, well I haven't posted in a while. So not that I've completely forgotten that I've been pregnant for the last 8...almost 9 months....but it's really just dawned on me that my due date is only 3 weeks away. 3 weeks and then I'll be having one of these

It's just amazing how time can fly by so quickly. I'm not going to lie--it's been a rough time for me. I've been on Zofran for nausea since month 2 and have had a lot of food aversions. Do all pregnant women like pickles? I can tell you a big heck no on this one. In fact, I couldn't even say the word pickle without almost throwing up in my mouth. McDonald's was out of the question because I knew they'd have pickles on their hamburgers. Just knowing that was enough to steer me away from those golden arches.

That being said, it's also been some of the most amazing 8.5 months of my life. I turned 30 and a week later, found out I was pregnant. Four months later, I found out I was having a girl. Four months after that, we had a baby shower and now our spare bedroom has become a nursery. I've felt an amazing outpouring of love and support from family & friends and have been amazed at what the human body can endure (and yet still function).

So that being said, I imagine that this blog will focus a little more on being a first time parent--and all the trials, tribulations, and rewards that come along with that. But...we've got a little bit of time before that happens.

Big news

So I have big news coming down the pike (as the saying goes). I'm not at liberty to say anything right now, but will be posting news in a few weeks. Stay tuned.

Bring it

Allow me to bask in my late 20's.
There. Now that that's done, let's see what I have to look forward to.

Yes that's right. On Thursday I will be turning 30. Honestly I don't see why people freak out when they hit this age. Sure I'm married, but I'm not exactly in the place I thought I would be. If you asked me 5 or 10 years ago where I'd be at when I'm 30, I would have never said that I'd be living in my parent's basement because the state of Alabama tried to royally screw my husband out of getting a single dollar of the unemployment he earned there. Yep, there are three things in that sentence I never would have said at 20:
1. Parent's basement. 2. Alabama. 3. Husband.
Life is funny like that. If my 20's have taught me anything, it's that sometimes you can't control everything (or anything really) no matter how hard you try.

In a funny way, I'm sort of looking forward to the next 1o years. I've heard a lot of people say that they felt so much more confident and happy in their skin once they hit 30 because they didn't care about trying to conform to what other people wanted. In one aspect, I'm 100% ready to embrace that confidence and I'm hoping it feels like when you go off to college and realize that whomever told you that high school was the best years of your life...was obviously smoking crack.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the happiest with myself. I have a certain constant level of stress when thinking about finances. I have gained back the 13 pounds I lost in Alabama which is trivial when I think of how I gained back a happy marriage and shed my depression. I've been battling my weight since I was 18 and I've come to the consensus that if I can never fit a size 12 again, then so be it. BUT that being said, I will try to maintain a moderately healthy lifestyle, make smarter food choices, and try to increase my activity. In fact, I'm starting a class called SHAPE tomorrow-think high intensity strength training.

So instead of focusing on what I couldn't do, or what I didn't have, or how I wasn't thin enough (i.e. my 20's), I'm going to focus on things that I'm good at....things that I really want to do...things and people who truly make me happy. So I'm embracing turning 30. Bring it.
